DINING: Ban Khun Mae, BKK, Thailand

The gastronomic delights of Thailand are considered among the worlds most delicious. It has unique
blend of tastes – hot and spicy, salty, sweet and the flavors always highlighted with citrus from a lemon
wedge or lime. These well executed balances of flavors are evident from the roadside eateries to quaint
homey restaurants.

And to get our fill of Thai goodies, Ban Khun Mae at Siam Square, Soi 8 is a favorite. The place is softly
lit and live traditional Thai music softly plays in the background serenading you and your company.

Their tom yam kung or spicy shrimp soup is love. The dish got a vibrant orange color with a unique sour
and spicy taste fragrant with herbs and sprinkled generously on top with chopped fresh cilantro.

The simple dish of chicken is seasoned well fried perfectly to a crisp but with a moist and juicy meat
infused with garlic.

They also have chicken satay. Although Indonesian originally, their version is moist and tender seasoned
with special Thai paste.

The pepper and garlic squid is divine – the initial crunch of the batter and the fresh tender almost delicate
squid rings.

Tod Mun Goong or Thai shrimp cakes are fried but deliciously light and springy served with a cucumber
salad.

Bagoong fried rice to round up the dishes.

And of course, Khao Niaow Ma Muang or mango with coconut milk flavored sweet-salty sticky rice for
